07 FEB 2013 Jobs to be done for presentation?

Alice and Toop, just keep working away on moodboards for plants, planet, terrain that kind of stuff.
Alistair, any renders you have as an example of the cannyon? also if you want to make any updates to the birds eye view map?
Jamie, maybe mess around wit things on UDK and any screen caps or videos you can make of prgress so we can decide if UDK will be a realistic option? also i think you were saying you'd redo the planet concept?
I'll be working on storyboards for the concept and some rough concepts of character, other plants, or whatever?

And if anyone else feels like it do some concepts if you have ideas :D theres no real date for these to be done just keep updating on the blog and so long as this is up for the presentation which is supposedly on the 18th? thats all good :D

Just a landscape concept ( Concept Art )

I'm just drawing this from memory of Alistair's map of the alien planet.

the yellowish murky area is the end of the swamp part, and i dunno why i just keep imagining the mountains as a purple hue like in WOW the night elves forest kind of thing.

again just an idea i just got into drawing and then i thought i'd mess with colour.

Expanding on ideas

After much research in to 3DS games, and the game engine, we found that it would be very unrealistic although interesting , to attempt to make our game work on 3DS.
But considering that the ipad and android run unity and unreal engine games, we thought we could apply the same idea to an ipad incorporating the camera function like the 3DS.

After talking we realised that not everyone could be ina position to take pictures of friends and family when laying the game they just may not be around anyone when they play. we had an idea making the photo option available whenever so that you don't feel like you are losing out without the pictures or making the need for pictures prevent the player from playing the game.

Also we thought much like in fallout 3 the character that you replace the faces, could all be wearing a 'colony' uniform, meaning that if the player has not taken pictures we can simply have unidentifiable colony characters wandering around when you hallucinate and when you get closer to them they fade away like a ghost if they have no face or if you have taken photos you can get close enough to see their face or something happens different? (ideas?)

 
maybe we could make a unisex model in a spacesuit so it is neutral. (and easier than making two models for gender)
 






                 But because we don't want to run into problems when designing textures and models, we want to have a suit that means we only need the face of a character and no hair is seen much like this image of the helmet only the face is seen literally.




Another idea was that we could switch from first person to third person every so often depending on the hallucination. we felt that the player may have problem relating to our character is constantly in first person and also thought that we could incorporate the need for third person for tasks and not just as a creating a bond with the character.


Hallucination Research

Was Looking at more research on hallucination in games

ideas i had was maybe a part that the character needs to fix the A.I is coloured red but the food he has been eating makes him Hallucinat and is unable to see the colour red so he must find another plant to eat that makes him able to see red again or maybe a mix of two plants to see red as a little puzzle?

Below using spec-ops the line hallucination is show in the from of PTSD (Post traumatic stress disorder) below the frist picture is the main character talikng to another soilder behind him


































but when he turns around to short at him as seen blow he realizes it was all in his head

maybe the main character for are game has lost all the friends and family and has a similar experience


also an idea of using a 3DS console to upload photos of friends and family and applying them to character models in our game. On the 3DS there is already a game called face raiders, you take pictures of your friends and then you get to shoot them down using the camera.





Below is the ending from 2001: A Space Odyssey this is an amazing use of colour and with amazing music makes this a good hallucination

Team Discussion One

Hey everyone, I know we said we would have a discussion on facebook but after talking to Alistair abit in class it actually makes sense to have the discussion maybe on the blog as comments under this post.

So I'm looking at the brief and just taking down all the points most of them aren't relevant right now. I'll just put up whatever is important to discuss now and we can make more posts in the future for other tasks.

Brainstorming Ideas from Friday 1 Feb.

So the whole group started brainstorming some ideas branching off from the original concept of a colony shipwreck on an alien planet (a basic description).

Alien planet ideas:-

The alien plants on the planet have adapted to its empty environment by making the land look habitable to other species (i.e humans or other lifeforms) hence how the colony thought this planet would make a good place to colonise. but once the plants have lured lifeforms on to its surface, they become vicious carnivorous killers. the planet seems almost impossible to escape, due to a thick smog/fog floating high in the atmosphere(just thought of this when i was typing give me your thoughts guys?)

We then thought of unrelated ideas, concepts for a different game?

This is an interesting article explaining the different types of colourblindness and shws pictures of what those people would see.

From what I gathered when we were talking and thinking more about it now, we thought the idea of a colourblind person perspective would be interesting and i htink this concept might work wel as a puzzle type game because the player would have to think about things from a colourblind perspective? (toop maybe you can elaborate on what you were thinking because I don't have anything written down really for colourblind?)

Schizophrenia Character Perspective: -




I thought schizophrenia would be interesting s mental illness is something a lot of people never really understand and like emotional things you never understand until you experience it. 
Some (I'm assuming) medical students and mental health doctors have already worked on auditory projects and someone even tried to recreate the effects of schizophrenia visually as well as audibly using a game second life. I think creating a game were you character is schizophrenic but you aren't aware until the end of the experience would be interesting. having people talking to you as a schizophrenic would hear it and seeing people who aren't there and much like the movie 'A Beautiful Mind' you have to try and think about who you are talking to do they seem real is what they are saying making sense to you and there are also normal people talking to you, but these voices are trying to convince you that somethings not right.

then we moved on from schizophrenia back to our alien concept and thought what if the plants didnt kill you but instead caused you to hallucinate and you had a choice between trying to complete missions starving or keeping your health up by eating these plants but having to complete a mission with distracting hallucinations .

Give me you thoughts on these concepts everyone, and of course add to this post or make a new post if you have anymore ideas of your own? :D
